The clatter of dice.
A cunning thief must think twice.
Death is not so nice.
The clatter of dice.
A cunning thief must think twice.
Death is not so nice.
The opening line is pure sensory bait: dice hitting a table, that small rattle of chance being decided somewhere just out of view. It's a gambler's sound, but B1ndas immediately reroutes it into something colder. The second line pulls a character into the frame, a thief, and hints at consequence without naming it, which is where the tension coils. Then the last line lands the turn: death, stated flatly, almost deadpan, like the dice were never about coins or cards at all.
What makes this rewarding on a reread is the pun sitting quietly under the surface, the dice-and-death connection anyone who's rolled a saving throw will recognize instantly. The mood isn't seasonal so much as tabletop, hushed and tense, the kind of quiet before a bad roll. Compression does the trick here: three lines, one shrug, and suddenly the stakes feel real.
