Why is the clue list the part that matters?

On most crosswords the grid is the biggest thing on screen and the clues are the smallest — which is backwards, because the clues are the part you actually read. Here the clues come up to 19px with looser line spacing and drop from two columns to one, so nothing is squeezed into a narrow strip.

How long does it take to solve?

Most people finish the 5×5 in two to five minutes. The clues lean literary — famous quotations, writers, painters — rather than obscure crossword jargon, so it stays friendly for a daily habit rather than a test of trivia.
