One direction: the sky comment is the opening line of a tall tale, the kid claiming to see a shape in the clouds that "wasn't there yesterday," pulling the other two into a half-serious quest along the stream to find out what it means, mixing invention with the logic kids use to build myths out of boredom.
Another: play it quiet and real. The line is small — "looks like rain" — and the scene is really about the three of them, what's unsaid between them, maybe someone's leaving town soon and this is the last ordinary afternoon before that.
Or tip it toward wonder edged with unease: the sky is doing something faintly wrong, colors off, birds flying strange, and the children's reactions — one delighted, one scared, one already running to tell an adult — carry the whole story.
