📖 Notes & analysis

Three items, three white sheets, one small crime scene made of pocket lint and possibility. Try letting the objects argue with each other before you decide guilt: a receipt, a key, a broken hair tie could just as easily plead innocent as guilty. One direction leans cozy-mystery — a fight between neighbors over something small and petty that escalated, told with humor and a detective who's more nosy than official. Another goes quietly devastating — the last known activity of someone who vanished, where the ordinariness of the objects (a gum wrapper, a bus ticket) becomes unbearable in hindsight. A third could go noir-serious — a murder clue that implicates the writer themselves, blurring the line between exercise and confession. Whichever you choose, let the paper's blankness matter; empty space around an object always makes it look more suspicious than it is.
