Some writers will reach for the obvious triumph — the diploma, the promotion, the marathon finish line — and that's a fine place to start, but the more interesting essay often lives in what that accomplishment cost or taught, not just the fact of winning it. Others might sidestep achievement altogether and write about something quieter: staying kind during a hard year, rebuilding trust with someone, learning to sit still. There's real power in arguing that your greatest accomplishment isn't something anyone would put on a resume at all.

You could also play with scale and surprise — starting the piece like it's building toward something grand, then landing on something small and human, like finally calling a parent back, or forgiving yourself for a mistake. Let the reveal do the work.
