📖 Notes & analysis

You could write this as a quiet inventory of reasons, the practical and the private ones tangled together — a love of solitude, a bank account, a body that never quite settled on yes, a childhood that made you cautious about repeating certain patterns. Or take it sideways into the people who assume you owe them an explanation, and the different answers you give depending on who's asking and how tired you are of asking. There's also the maybe-someday version, less a decision than a door left ajar, worth exploring through the small envy or relief you feel around other people's children. And don't overlook the plot twist of changing your mind mid-life, or never having to, because the question answered itself before you had the chance to weigh in.
