📖 Notes & analysis

That question could open a dozen different doors, depending on who's asking and what's at stake. Picture two kids trying to sneak a stray dog past a landlord who's banned pets, whispering strategy behind a closet door — comedy built on small stakes and big scheming. Or shift the tone entirely: a heist crew standing over blueprints, the line delivered flat and serious, the room heavy with calculation instead of laughter. There's also a quieter version worth chasing — a surprise party planned by people who are terrible at keeping secrets, the question asked half-joking, half-panicked, as the guest of honor's car pulls into the driveway early. Same six words, wildly different engines underneath. Try writing the line three times with three different speakers in mind and see which one insists on being finished.
