The word you land on matters less than the shape of the hole it leaves. Say you land on "quiet." Write around it and you might end up with a story about a librarian who communicates entirely through gestures, the silence never named but felt in every sentence's white space. Or take the word somewhere theatrical: a heist where the whole plan hinges on a sound nobody's allowed to make, tension built from what can't be said aloud. There's a gentler road too, a grandfather teaching a child to fish at dawn, the stillness between them doing all the emotional work the word itself would have flattened. The trick isn't avoidance, it's translation. Let the missing word become a pressure that shapes everything around it.
