📖 Notes & analysis

Being concise works because attention is a limited resource, and every extra word spends a little of it. Readers aren't lazy, they're just busy filtering signal from noise, so a tight sentence gets remembered while a sprawling one gets skimmed and forgotten. Concrete example: instead of writing "Due to the fact that the weather was rainy, we made the decision to cancel the picnic," you write "We canceled the picnic because it rained." Same meaning, half the effort, twice the clarity. The caution is that concise doesn't mean bare. Cutting words until a sentence loses its warmth or personality just trades one problem for another. The goal isn't the fewest words possible, it's the fewest words needed to say something clearly and well. Trim the fat, but keep the flavor.
