Find an emotion that you feel alone with, something that makes you think you're the only person who feels this way, and write a story about it. Try to make the reader of that story feel that exact same way, and you'll find more companionship than you think.

📖 Notes & analysis
The reason this works is that shame thrives on the belief that a feeling is unique to you, and specificity is the antidote — when you describe the exact shape of a private feeling rather than the general category of it, other people recognize themselves in the details you thought were most isolating. Try it small: instead of writing "I felt lonely," write about checking your phone during a party to make it look like you have somewhere else to be. That's the moment someone else has lived too. The caution is that confession isn't the same as craft — dumping raw feeling onto a page can be cathartic for you without landing for a reader. The goal isn't exposure, it's translation. Find the detail, then build the story around it with care.
